The Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest is celebrating it's 100th aniversary with a splendid exhibition of Van Gogh's works, opened between 1 December 2006 - 20 March 2007, which includes some of the best works of the Dutch painter, such as "L'Arlesienne" (1890) and "Self Portrait with Pipe" (1886).
The works have been borrowed from over 40 collections worldwide, such as the Museum Van Gogh in Amsterdam, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Musee d'Orsay in Paris. It's the first Van Gogh exhibition of this importance in the region, since the Viena exhibition in 1903. The whole lot of works was insured for 760 million dolars.
The 43 paintings, 24 drawings and 10 litographs and engravings made by van Gogh are presented together with another exhibition of works by masters such as Rembrandt and Millet, who influenced van Gogh. Also, the Museum is presenting a small exhibition of paintings made by Hungarian artists which were inspired by Van Gogh.
