Arhitext design Foundation, with the help of the Ministry of Culture and Cults and with the partnership of the Institute of Culture and Human Research «Nicolae Iorga» - Venice, presents the projects of two of the most representative contemporary Romanian architects in a multimedia exhibition, in the context of the Venice Architecture Biennial 2008.
The event proposed by Arhitext design Foundation consists in organizing an architecture exhibition in Venice in one of the exhibition spaces of the Institute of Culture and Human Research «Nicolae Iorga». This event is intended to be presented to the public in Venice in the same time as the Biennale of Architecture because we want to make even more visible the values of the Romanian contemporary architecture that are in the process of aligning to the European and world architecture trends.
The exhibition, with the suggestive title «Two lines: global and local» will consist of presenting projects and highlighting architectural demarches of two important contemporary Romanian architects: that is Vlad Arsene, an exponent of the «quotation», an architect who builds according to Western trends, more precisely American trends, and Radu Mihailescu, an architect who is open to the local spirit. These two approaches accentuate directly two evident trends in the Romanian architecture at the general
level. On the one hand there are trends which feed from the Western models, but on the other hand there are also creators who find their guiding in what specificity of the local means. Putting them together in one exhibition and discussing them in this context is relevant to the particular level, as a case study of two major Romanian architects, but also at a general level, in what Romanian architecture has to say in the European and international context.
Romanian architecture has several important creators, with a production of architecture of a special quality. Nevertheless, their works still need to be introduced and promoted on the international architectural scene, where the circuit of exhibitions and the frequency of attending these great architectural events mark the names and outline the figures of the most outstanding architects.
At the opening in the 12th of September, at 06:30 p.m., there will be present the authors of the exhibited works: Radu Mihailescu and Vlad Arsene.
