Ion Tuculescu - Romanian painter. He debuted very early, at the age of 15, under the guidance of Eustatiu Stoenescu, with a personal exhibition. He had renounced for a while at painting, to study biology and human medicine, and starting from 1934 he has devided himself between artistic activity and the scientific one. His painting activity is delimited in stages. The first period is characterised by a expresionits vision, which starts from the reality figuration (Robinia's Night/Noaptea salcimilor). Starting with predilection from the representation of the folkorical motives, paesant interiors or even object (rig from Oltenia, popular doll, later the wayside crucifix), interpretate sometimes symbolically and with an intense colour, bright (Dolls, cloud and butterflies/Papusile, norul si fluturii), are arriving at an original synthesis, with a strong national character. With the time he takes off from the elements from reality, tending more and more toward an abstract expresionism, with powerfull decorative effects and in which dominating the processing of the folkloric plastic endornment (Looks of the field/Privirile campului). In the last stage his vision atteins an expresive paroxysm, making a plastic univers of symbols loaded with bizarre poetry, obsesive, product of the interior dramatical tension (My plastic testament/Testamentul meu plastic). |
