The Fifth edition of the Triennale of Finnish Art will open in Helsinki on the 12th of May, until June 10, 2007, and is bound to be one of this year's most important artistic events. The curator, Luigi Fassi, has selected several works by 13 important artists, trying to present a complete and profound image of today's ideas and principles in Finnish contemporary art. The focus for this new edition of the Triennale is on the humanistic ideals and dimensions of Finnish art and especially the place of the human in the universe. The relations between man and nature, between people, experiences, the need for the other, all of these are contemporary themes that atract and torment Finnish artists, demonstrating the connection established between life and the present.
Most of the works presented in the Fifth Triennale of Finnish Art are photographies, media art and video art, and several of these have just been completed recently, never having been exhibited before. The list of artists includes Lauri Astala, Petri Eskelinen, Anni Leppala, Sini Pelkki, Jari Silomaki or Pilvi Takala, all of them young artists, but already well-known by Finnish art-lovers.
The Triennales of Finnish art are presentations of contemporary Finnish art, being produced by the AAF (Artists' Association of Finland). The first edition took place in 1994.
