The Schroder Collection is famous among the art lovers as one of the best and richest collections of Medieval and Renaissance works, made by silversmiths and goldsmiths, delicate masterworks in precious metals, many of them unique in the whole world. The Wallace Collection gallery in London is presenting an impressive selection of creations from this collection, focusing on the silver works from the Renaissance period, between July 12 - October 14 2007. It is one of the few occasions that pieces from this real treasure are presented together, and is a real feast for those who love the art of jewells. |
Most of the Schroder Collection was formed between 1870 - 1930, and it includes several real masterpieces from church collections, civic institutions and princely and royal treasures from all around Europe, as well as polished nautilus shells, some beautiful examples of early Chinese porcelain and even some creations made out of carved rock crystal. Besides being outstanding examples of craftmanship, the pieces featured in the exhibition are a reflection of the artistic and cultural interests and themes of that period.
