The People's House built in the central part of Bucharest, on Spirii Hill, is a building that is distinguished by its dimensions, with a height of 84 m and 12 floors. The building contains numerous offices, halls, meaning around 1,000 rooms impressive decorated, offering to whole anssembly a monumental appearance.
The building area is 330,000 square meters, placing it the second largest building after the Pentagon. Called also the Palace of Parliament was built in the period 1984-1989.
Considered from the beginning a big project, for the construction was alocated great funds by the Romanian state, being engaged many specialists, 400 architects and 20,000 workers who worked in three shifts for 24 hours a day.
The quantity of materials used is impressive, mostly 1,000,000 ml of marble, 5500 tons of cement, 7000 tonnes steel, 20,000 tonnes sand. The decorations of building were made by the best specialists. They used 2800 chandeliers, 220,000 carpets and 3500 m leather.Built in a period of a great deprivation, the building was not love at first by the Romanian people.
Built by whole Romanian industry, it resulted by ability of a large number of specialists, using traditional building materials, including marble from Ruschita, situated in south-west of the country, with its beautiful reflection, stone and wood from the mountains and forests of Romania. Thus the Romanian people trying to look with sympathy to this building.
The building amazes the foreign tourists arrived in Bucharest. Beautifully decorated ceilings, tapestries, galleries, halls are impressive united into a harmonious whole and in same time overwhelming.
