This permanent exhibition, hosted by the Musee National des Beaux-Arts du Quebec, offers visitors a chance to rediscover the magic and charm of the mixing of modern and traditional in the art of Quebec. For the first time, a museum presents a new vision of this chapter in Canadian art history, bringing together an impressive number of works, mostly paintings and drawings.
The "modern" art was marked by the main use of themes like social preocupations and awareness, changes in the traditional society, at a time when the world was shaken by a deep financial crisis and the threat of a new World War. Juxtaposed next to this social and modern compositions, the organisers have placed "traditional" works of art, to bring back the themes of the "good old times", with their pithoresque characters and the old ways of living. |
