Movement Research, Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, National Center of Dance Bucharest, Dance Theater Workshop and Gabriela Tudor Foundation present MOVING DIALOGUE: A Bucharest/New York Dance Exchange
October 16-30 (to continue in 2011) / Movement Research at the Judson Church, Dance Theatre Workshop, RCINY & more, NYC Romanian choreographers Madalina Dan, Mihaela Dancs, Paul Dunca, Vava Stefanescu, and dance critic Gina Serbanescu meet their American peers and US audiences, in an exchange facilitated by the artists Cosmin Manolescu and Levi Gonzalez Moving Dialogue is a creative, cultural exchange fostering engagement and interaction between both emerging and established contemporary American and Romanian dance artists. Taking place October 16 - June 2011 in both New York City and Bucharest, the project focuses on dialogue, networking, artistic process and professional development through studio research and residencies, group practice sessions, panel discussions, classes and workshops, and informal performances. Panelists Mihaela Dancs, Paul Dunca, Madalina Dan, Vava Stefanescu, Gina Serbanescu, Cosmin Manolescu (RO), Maggie Bennett, Jillian Peña, HeJin Jang, Jon Kinzel, and Levi Gonzalez (USA) introduce the Romanian contemporary dance scene and discuss making work in the USA and Romania.

TRANSYLVANIA: HERITAGE AND FUTURE Exhibition & public events
Presented by the Mihai Eminescu Trust, in collaboration with the Embassy of Romania to the U.S., the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, the Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, and with the support of the Ratiu Foundation, the exhibition Transylvania - Heritage and Future focuses on the Saxon villages of South-Eastern Transylvania, known in German as the Siebenburgen, and their recent rebirth as self-sustaining rural communities. Illustrating the diversity of Transylvania’s heritage, the exhibition also draws on the restoration of the rich Jewish heritage in Southern Transylvania, and the revival of traditional crafts and trades. The exhibition is accompanied by daily guided tours ( Mon-Fri, 1pm & 4pm) and a series of public events. Upcoming:

"Transylvania - Lost and Found", a talk by Caroline Fernolend Vice-President of Mihai Eminescu Trust, focusing on several chapters of Southern Transylvania village renaissance after the Saxon exodus.

"Transylvania Open Forum", a discussion on heritage and future with Prof. Eliot Sorel MD, senior adviser to the exhibition, and Caroline Fernolend Aimed at both the academic and business communities, and at the general public, its goal is to create an open platform for discussion on the future for heritage in Transylvania, and how the restoration and regeneration of crafts, buildings, and the environment can be assisted and further encouraged.
