The first major exhibition, which explores the role of the female figure in the works of three of the most influential artists of the 20th century - Max Beckmann, Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning – takes place in Munich’s Pinakothek der Moderne.
The exhibition will bring together around 100 works from international institutions. The Pinakothek der Moderne, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2012, holds one of the most comprehensive collections of Max Beckmann works in the world.
The show will set aside familiar clichés about the artist's private lives and their relationships to women to allow for a more dispassionate analysis of the female figure as a subject matter in their work. The exhibition will run from 30 March until 15 July.
