Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31 and it is a traditional American event. It is also a mix between ancient Celtic practices, Catholic and Roman religious rituals and European folk traditions.
Halloween is the time of celebration and superstition, the symbol of the line between life and death. The tradition says that October 31 is the day when the dead return to the earth.
Beginning with the past century Halloween began to lose its religious connotation and became more a children’s holiday. Between 1920 and 1950, the centuries-old practice of trick-or-treating was also revived.
In the present the American people spend an estimated $6.9 billion every year on Halloween, making it the country's second largest commercial holiday.
