The People's House is an impressive building, which stands in the centre of the capital city Bucharest. The giant was built in the Romanians "golden age", that means before 1989 by the time when Nicolae Ceausescu was the communist president of the state. After the revolution it was decided that the great building should host the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of Romania, so it became the symbol of democracy. The Palace is also open for tourists everyday.
The "monster" as it is sometimes called was built in 1984. It has 6 registers and 21 bodies with enormous halls and galleries, which are decorated with valuable paintings, sculptures, golden and laced ceilings, carpets and tapestry. The visitors are overwellmed by the refinement and the glamour of the chandeliers and the manufactured mirrors. The materials for 1.100 rooms – stone, marble and wood – are taken from the romanian mountains. Ceausescu had this idea after a visit in North Corea. One fifth of central Bucharest was razed for this project. Over 700 architects collaborated on its design.
The Pentagon is the largest construction in the world, the Palace of the Roumanian Parliament is on the second place. It is one of the most and expensive building projects in the history, at least from the last century.
