As most art specialists predicted, the Frida Kahlo exhibition hosted at the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City has proven to be a great success. According to the estimates provided by the museum, so far over 155.500 visitors have attended the show, and the number is sure to grow until August 19, the closing day of the event.
This exhibition, the biggest of those dedicated to the life and works of Frida Kahlo, is just one of the events organised in Mexico to celebrate the centennial of Frida Kahlo's birth and her role as one of the most important and symbolic names in modern Mexican culture.
Curators have chosen around 354 works, an impressive number by any means, among which there are 65 oils, 45 drawings, 11 watercolors, 5 etchings, as well as 50 letters, a nice collection of over one hundred photographs, all creating an impressive and comprehenssive image of the social, political and cultural context in which the artist lived.
