The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is one of the most original and interesting museum in the world, dedicated entirely to the phenomenon that forever changed the music, history and culture of the 20th century - rock and roll. Over the years this institution has become a symbol to al rock lovers, by it's impressive collections of records, artefacts, personal objects, costumes and musical instruments, documents, photographs and many more, dedicated to the best bands and musicians of the genre. |
Starting on May 25 the museum is presenting another such exhibition, this time dedicated to a legendary band, Doors and especially it's charismatic leader, singer and composer, Jim Morrison, one of the best known iconic artists in recent history. With the title " Break on Through: The Lasting Legacy of the Doors", the show examines the role of the band in it's time and mostly it's continued influence on music and popular culture, from the 1960's to nowadays.
Although the day that Jim Morrison - The Lizzard King - died was a tragic day for the fans, few specialists could predict that the Doors will remain an important name in music industry, inspiring and shaping music many years after the separation, it's labums still being in high demand. In just four years the band had risen from obscurity to international success, providing a destructive and seductive role model in Jim Morrison, idolised by millions. Formed in LA, in 1966, the Doors was part of the strong and diverse psychedelic scene that was forming and developping at that time, yet their first album would be heavily influenced by blues and jazz, Eastern music and literary themes, thus being unique.
The exhibition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is examining how and why the legend of the band lasted and developped to such a degree, reuniting for the first time artifacts, instruments, manuscripts (mostly lyrics and poems written by Morrison), audio and viodeo records, photographs and many other items. Most of this exhibits are provided by the surviving members of the band, who cooperated fully in the preparing of the show, while others come from prestigious private collectors. Curators are not only presenting the history of the Doors, but also their rarest available records, the themes, subjects and musical ideas that made them unique, the style that was launched through the imagery of the band and the impact that they had upon music lovers and popular culture.
