In the beginning the very first part of the gunslinger's adventures was actually a collection of five stories, previously published in the F&SF and put together in a single book in 1982. Even if the casual reader (as well as the die-hard King fans) knew him as a horror author, having had a lot of success with book like Carrie or The Shining, it was a surprising hit and slowly but surely, over about three decades, Stephen King would publish what was soon thought to be his magnum opus. Despite the impact of the Dark Tower books it seemed that no one was brave enough to start thinking about a movie or TV series version. That is until a few years ago, when the project became more and more a talked about subject and not just wishful thinking from the fans.
How much from the eight book will be used in the movie? Will there only be one picture or a trilogy (maybe even more) like the hugely successful Lord of the Rings? Will there also be a TV series to link it all together, as it was mentioned several times in the past? And how will the long time fans of the series and of Stephen King receive this new, long-awaited movie? It's hard to say at the moment, but Dark Tower the movie will hit theaters in the USA on the 4th of August 2017.
