The Collection of Alex E. Booth Jr, which comprises some of the best of the Huntington Museum of Art's permanent collection, is one of the most important of it's kind in the US. At the start, the first of these works were donated by Alex E. Booth Jr to the museum in 1964, and over the following three decades the collector gave another 20 works to the museum. Actually, the collector also was the head of the Museum's board in 1971-1973 and in the 70's he also chaired the Buildings Committee for a while, chosing the designer for the additional galleries and studios. |
Due to his efforts and financial contributions the museum also opened the Walter Gropius Master Artists Workshop Series, still on-going today.
Starting on September 22nd the Huntington Museum of Art inWest Virginia is presenting this impressive collection in a new exhibition, fascinating by it's variety and value, including artists such as Georges Braque, John Singer Sargent, George Wesley Bellows, showcasing a wide range of movements and chapters in art history. Also, the paintings are complemented by small Oriental sculptures and glass works of the 20th century.
