One of the newest exhibitions hosted by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is trully a cultural event in the world of American art lovers. "The Arts in Latin America 1492 - 1820" is one of the most ambitious shows of the last decade, a multimedia exhibition that presents in detail around 250 works of art produced in New Spain (today it comprises Mexico and Central America) and Peru (now Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru) or Brazil, in the three centuries between the time that the New World was discovered to the forming of the first independent nationa-states. |
It is also the first exhibition who choses to disregard any national and ethnic boundaries, exploring at the same time the artistic differencies and national traits of each region, presenting the Latin America as a whole, a new and synthetic aproach. The works are varied, ranging from paintings and sculptures to furniture, feathe-work, gold and silver objects, ceramics, textiles, from public and private collections all around the world.
