The Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro, England, will be the host of the new Taking Space show, starting on March 22 2008, thus continuing the tradition. Taking Space plays an important place in contemporary British art scene, as an art collective formed in 1993 in St Ives by three artists. It's main goal is to offer the women artists who are living and working in Cornwall a chance of interacting, creating together and finally exhibiting their works in unexpected, varied and often strange places.
One of the most original rules of the Taking Space initiative is that members can choose by themselves which of their artworks will be presented in the exhibition, without any external pressure. So it's show is different from the previous one, due to the personal choice of exhibits and the venue. Over time this group has slowly attracted other female artists, and nowdays it has almost 70 artists, which gives the collective exhibitions a certain vibrancy and charm, making each edition special.
The show that will be hosted by the Royal Cornwall Museum will bring together around 15 artists, ranging from abstract and figurative painters to sculptors, printmakers, photographers, using traditional and contemporary media, and is sure to be a surprising experience.
