In order to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth, The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. is presenting a fabulous exhibition dedicated to the drawings and prints created by Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 - 1669). Appreciated mostly for his elegant and beautiful paintings, Rembrandt was nevertheless and extraordinay etcher and draftsman, producing during his artistic career tousands of works. |
Starting in his teen, till his death at the age of 63, Rembrandt managed to explore and invent the world of graphical arts by means of careful human observation, producing several formal representations of himself, various models, members of his family, scenes of everyday life, a new vision in landscape. All of these were extremely elegant and detailled. Rembrandt also produced etchings and drawing representing friend, important persons of his time, biblical stories.
The organizers had the chance of choosing most of the works from the National Gallery of Art collection, one of the largest of it's kind in the world.
