Known to all of the comics fans as one of the most important creative forces in this industry, Stan Lee is a trademark in itself, due to his talent and the influence that he had over the years in constructing what is now called the "Marvel Age" of comic books.
The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York, USA, is hosting until the 3rd of July 2007 one of the best retrospectives dedicated to the work of Stan Lee, as a writer, graphic artist, art director, promoter, editor. Stan Lee also played the key-role of leader of the so-called "Marvel Revolution", which revived and forever changed the world of comics, bringing it to a new degree of popularity. Together with other great names of comic art such as Jack Kirby, Lee managed in inventing - or reinventing - famous superheroes, which later became blockbuster hits not only in comics stores, but also in movie, television and entertainement. |
The curators have selected several of Lee's works, including many of his early ones, presenting his input as a co-creator of characters such as The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man (with whom Stan Lee's name is usually associated), The Hulk, Thor, Dr. Strange, Daredevil, and many more. He was most prolific at a time that fans called the Silver Age of comics, doing pioneering work for famous publishers such as DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics and others. What is special about this event is that the organisers have focused mainly on the work of Lee as a writer for comics, putting all other areas in second place.
