Sinaia Landmarks
Sinaia Monastery
Founded at the end of the seventeenth century by Mihail Cantacuzino after a pilgrimage to Sinai Mountain. The monument was named after Sinai and giving the name of the settlement that has formed around this monastery.
The monastery is built in a Romanian style, a style named Brancovenesc, after the great Hospodar Constantin Brancoveanu.
Peles Castle
The laying of the cornerstone for Peles Castle took place on August 22, 1875, on Peles Valley, field of Carol I King (1881-1914).
The Peles Castle has 170 rooms and was the first completely electrified castle in Europe.
One of the most valuable art collections in Europe, represented by approximately 2,000 pieces, is hosted here.
Sinaia Railway Station
The first Railway Station in Sinaia was built in 1913 by Demeter Cartner Company, being built and a second one station reserved exclusively for royalty and officials guests.
Located at intersection of main ways, here arrived Orient Express trains or Alberg Express.
The Royal station was built by architect Mark Duiliu in 1939 as a building stone in Romanian style. In the central salon of the Royal station there is a wall painting that represents a royal hunting of boars, with Latin inscription: Basarab Hospodar XIV century.
Sinaia Casino
Sinaia Casino is situated in Dimitrie Ghica Park and was built at the initiative of King Carol I in 1912 after plans of architect Petre Antonescu. Prime shareholder of Casino was the Baron of Marcay, a shareholder too of a casino in Monte Carlo.
