The Munch Museum in Oslo is hosting at the moment, among other shows, an impressive presentation of landscapes in the work of Edvard Munch, one of the most original, controversial and powerful European artists. The works, chosen from the museum's own collection, show that for Munch the theme was marked by compositions depicting the changing seasons. The visitors have the chance of watching through Munch's eyes the everchanging of season, from spring to the warmth of summer, from the coldness and bleakness of autumn to the nordic winters. |
The selection, carefully put together by curators, is further enriched by the Starry Night group of paintings, as well as some of the best of Munch'es compositions. The landscapes also include some rare works, many never before seen by the public, depicting on paper and canvas scenes from Germany, Asgardstrand, Kragero and Hvitsten. To complete the presentation, a group of works, aranged in a chronological manner, as well as several portraits, are put together in the show.
