More than 260 objects from the 17th through early 20th centuries were donated by Jean Montgomery Riddell for the Walters Art Museum. She died at the age of 100 years and was the patron of arts at Washington D.C.
Ridells collection was recognised in the entire world and considered as the finest of its kind in the United States of America. “We are honored that the Walters has been entrusted with this extraordinary collection of Russian enamels,” said Walters Director Gary Vikan. Her passion for the Russian art transformed her in a exceptional collector:Sshe assembled the premier collection of Russian enamels in the US.
Jean Montgomery Riddell was the daughter of John Montgomery. He seved as Franklin Roosevelt’s ambassador to Hungary. She met her husband at the American Embassy in Budapest.
Walters Art Museum is developing an exhibition for spring 2015 to share the Russian enamels new acquisitions with the public.
