The MET in New York will open at the beginning of october a show dedicated to the works and personality of the Persian poet known as Rumi (1207 - 1273), as his creations are considered to be the supreme expression of Sufism, a mystical trend in the Islamic world, radically influencing both culture and religion.
The event marks the 800th anniversary of the birth of the poet and philosopher, so the curators have chosen around 30 exhibits from the museum's collection of Islamic art, ranging from miniatures, examples of Islamic caligraphy and ceramics to metal objects, glass, textiles, all made between the 13th and the 19th centuries. All these treasures evoke the world in which a poet and thinker like Rumi appeared and created.
