Roy Lichtenstein has always been one of the great names in the Pop Art movement, for many surpassed only by the legendary Andy Warhol. An original and tallented artist, with a distinct style and impressive creative universe, Lichtenstein has created a great number of works, using several techniques and medium, but being interested to a larger degree into prints. The Yellowstone Art Museum in Montana is hosting at the moment an exhibition to Lichtenstein Prints, made between 1956 - 1997, showcasing a selection of 77 compositions, on loan from the Jordan D. Schnitzer collection. |
The prints chosen by the curators present in detail the career of Lichtenstein as a printer, from his early effort on the 50's, when his colourful and strange manner anounced the future Pop Art to the very last print, on which he was working on in 1997, at the time of his death. It is one of the best exhibitions dedicated to an important American artist, as it brings before art lovers a chapter in Lichtenstein's career that is both impressive and sadly ignored by the larger public.
