The world of Ancient Greece has fascinated mankind for centuries, as a model and main source of inspiration for artists and thinkers, and in the last years this interest didn't seem to fade away, as the number of exhibitions dedicated to this theme seemed larger. One of this show is being hosted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon, Portugal, focusing on the presence, role and manifestation of religion in Ancient Greece, through the images of the Olympic deities on Greek Ancient coins, from the museum's own rich collection. |
The curators have chosen 58 coins, many of them unique in Portugal, very valuable both for collectors and researchers.
The event, already a success, is organised as a complement to the larger exhibition "The Greeks. Art Treasures from the Benaki Museum, Athens", which will open on the 27th of September, bringing to Portugal, for the first time, works from the famous Greek museum.
