Free libraries in six of Romania's railway stations. That is the newest and, let's face it, more than original idea that caused some commotion in the Romanian media. In six railway stations - Bucharest, Iasi, Suceava, Alba Iulia, Sibiu, Sinaia - travellers will have the chance of waiting on the train while reading a book. Nothing special at first, but this time you do not have to take the book with you. In these six railway stations six small public libraries will be opened, from which you will be able to borrow the books youy want.
Titled "Writers on the Railway", the project was put together by the governement, with the help of the Writers' Union in Romania, who would also offer the books, mainly Romanian contemporary writers. So besides offering readers a chance of filling their waiting time, the project will also help promoting Romanian authors, some of them already well known, others not so much. A brilliant idea, which is just making it's first steps. Some of the authors selected for the railstation libraries are Augustin Buzura, Ana Blandiana, Dan Mircea Cipariu, Nicolae Prelipceanu and others.
The project is bound to be a success. What better way to spend your waiting time in the station than catching up with the latest books and authors in Romanian literature ? Surely, if you like the book you might even buy your own copy later on, so everyone is at gain. A library in a railway station ? This could catch on.
