More good news for Queen fans at the beginning of summer 2017. Following the release of the long-awaited BBC sessions and expecting the Queen Monopoly game (another surprise which has been... unoficially anounced) Queen listeners will be treated on May 25th with a new book about the band. Titled Queen in 3-D, the massive hardcover book will be, according to the press release recently published on the queenonline.com official site "a stereoscopic masterpiece capturing the history of Queen". For it will not be simply another illustrated history of the band, but a story which has more than 300 stereo views, which can be seen using a special 3-D viewer. And to make it all even more exciting, the photos in the book, as well as the texts, are the work of Brian May, Queen's guitarist and an afficionado of 3-D illustration. Seen as the closest thing to an autobiography, this is the story of Queen as seen by Brian May. All of the 3-D illustrations were captured by May himself, including behind the scenes images which so far have been unknown to the fans. Passionate about photography and images, Brian May started to used these stereo (3-D) cameras in the beginning of his Queen career - an expensive and rather unusual hobby at the time - and took images of the band both on tours or in the studio, even simply relaxing, so simply a treasure trove for the casual and passionate fan alike. The 360 images (more or less) must be viewed using the included OWL viewer supplied with the book, an original idea which very few could have thought about. This device, designed by May in order for the reader to enjoy the original Victorian style 3-D images (as the musician is an expert and respected collector in the field) is called the OWL and comes in it's own protective envelope. According to the press release it is the way to make hundreds of images come truly alive in front of the reader, in a way never imagined before.
The history of one of the most popular rock bands of all times, in 3-D and written by it's guitar player - a real treat for the fans.
