Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born on April 21, 1926 in London. Her father was Prince Albert, Duke of York, and her mother Elizabeth Bowes – Lyon, Duchess of York. Later they would became the King and the Queen of England. Princess Elizabeth had a youger sister, Princess Margaret. The girls received fine education at houm from their mother and a governess and than through a private tutor, who worked for Eaton College.
The second World War brought instability and the girls were moved and setteled in Windsor Castle. The relatives adviced the royal family to move Elizabeth and Margaret in Canada, but the queen rejected the proposal, because she wasn’t agree with the fact that the girls would live alone a long period and far away and in the same time she wouldn’t leave her husband. She knew that the king wouldn’t leave his country in that difficult period.
At the age of 19 Elizabeth joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service. She was trained as a driver and a mechanic and was the last head who served the war in uniform. She met her future husband at the age of 8, they met again after five years at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. They fell in love and after a few years later they married. The had three sons and a daughter: Charles Philip Arthur George, Andrew Albert Christian Edward, Edward Anthony Richard Louis and Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise.
Elizabeth’s father, King George VI frequently got ill, so she replaced him at the public events. After the king’s death, Elisabeth was crowened on June 2, 1953 in Westminster Abbey and she became Queen Elizabeth II. As a constitutional monarch she is politically neutral. She meets evry week the prime minister and she receives every day reports from the Parliament. Queen Elizabeth is the leader of the great Britain’s armee and the president of more than 700 organizations. The Queen tried to make the British monarchy to be modern and closer to the people. She also gained international respect and fame.
Her first born son, Prince Charles announced her in the 90’s that he do not want to be a king. People said that the queen would hand the throne to her grandson, Prince William. The problematic period continued and in 1997 Princess Diana died in a tragical car crash in Paris. The royal family was than criticized for the unsensitive reaction to Lady Di’s death.
In 2002 Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the Golden Jubilee as queen and four years later her 80th birthday with her family. A year later, in 2007, the queen and her husband Prince Philip celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Queen Elizabeth is the symbol of the United Kingdom, she increased the work of the monarchy and persued her duties with dignity.
