At the end of summer 1946, just after the Second World War, Picasso received in interesting invitation, to live and work at the Grimaldi Castle, at Antibes (the castle will oficially become a Picasso museum in 1966). The artist chose to open a studio there and worked relentlessly, together with his newest female companion, Francoise Gilot, who was both a model and a muse. Picasso worked without pause, reusing his old canvases or simple building materials, such as panels. He also returned to his mythological themes, visible for example in his great composition "La Joie de Vivre", celebrating the recovered pleasure of living and the extraordinary light and nature of the region.
