Pianist Matei Varga in a special concert at
Le Poisson Rouge
The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York is pleased to announce the upcoming concert at Le Poisson Rouge of Bucharest-born New York-based pianist Matei Varga, whose prodigious talent is fast becoming recognized in the United States and Europe. The concert, scheduled for Sunday, February 6, at 6:30 pm, will feature works by Enescu, Janacek, Bartok, and Szymanowski. The concert also marks the release of his recent Naxos CD featuring rarely recorded music by George Enescu. Varga's debut at Zankel Hall (October 2008) was described by Rorianne Schrade of New York Concert Review as “masterful,” while his account of Schumann’s Fantasy op. 17 at the Berlin Konzerthaus (August 2009) was hailed by Wolfgang Schrieber of Süddeutsche Zeitung as “magical.” Matei Varga was also one of the curators and featured musicians of the special concert "Under 30. Young Romanian Composers and Musicians at Merkin Concert Hall," presented by RCINY in 2008.
