Petre Antonescu was born in Ramnicu Sarat on June 29, 1873. He was one of the greatest Romanian architects.
He studied architecture in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, gaining a diploma in 1899 and is one of the first generation of the architects who have given neo-Romanian architecture, a bridge between tradition and connection to the present.
Among the edifices built according to its plans can be mentioned:
Investment Bank Palace (Marmorosch Bank) in Bucharest, Doamnei Street nr. 4, built in 1912.
Arch of Triumph in Bucharest, which can be admired today, built between 1935-1936, under his guidance.
The Kretzulescu Palace (1903), now headquarters of the UNESCO Centre for Higher Education), Bucharest.
Ministry of Public Works - built between 1906 and 1910 by plans of the architect Peter Antonescu, today, City Hall Bucharest.
The Navigation Palace, Galati - built in the last decade of the 19th century, early 20th century, being designed by the architect Peter Antonescu. Today it is the headquarters of several institutions such as Ports Administration of Maritime Danube or The Romanian Navigation Compagny Navrom.
The Cathedral in Galati - built after the plans of the architect Petre Antonescu.
An interesting building, with a traditional architectural characters, is the headquarters of the Prefecture and The Council of Dolj County, in the past named Palace of Administration. The edifice was built between 1912-1913.
