The Petofi Sandor Memorial House can be found in Coltau, Maramures. Opened in 1960, this small museum is hosted inside the castle built by the Teleki family in 1740 - 1760, and was visited over the years by major personalities such as Franz Liszt or the Hungarian writer Jokai Mor. In 1846 - 1847 the poet wrote here some of his most important works, which since then have been published in several foreign languages. Although small, the exhibition space is very interesting for those who are familiarised to Petofi Sandor's works, as we find here the original furniture, some personal objects, photographs and very valuable manuscripts, several printings of his books, as well as other objects donated over the years. It is by all means an impressive collection, very much appreciated by visitors. Petofi Sandor is one of the most important Hungarian writers, famous for his poems, which were translated into several languages and published all over the world.
