The Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin will open soon a new exhibition, dedicated to the drawings of Patrick Hall, considered to be one of the most important and influential of contemporary Irish artists. The curators have already selected around 100 drawings, from rather famous ones to newer creations, many of these never having been presented in an exhibition, while a handfull come straight from the artist's studio. According to the organisers, the show will focus solely on the drawings of Hall, thus presenting another side of this important and diverse artist, beyond his classical painter image. Patrick Hall will this way also be regarded as a talented and inventive draftsman, who managed to change the world of Irish arts in the last century.
Born in 1935, in Co Tupperary, Patrick Hall would later study at the Chelsea School of Art and at the Central School of Art in London, proving to be a great and original natural talent, although some of his teacher weren't very fond of his unusual ideas. In 1966 Patrick Hall felt the need for a change, so he moved to Spain. He would live here until 1974, when he returned to Dublin. In the next decades he worked and exhibited throughout the world, becoming one of the most respected voices of contemporary Irish art.
