The Oceanographic Museum, located in Monaco-Ville (old town), Monaco is a museum of marine sciences and was inaugurated in 1901 by Prince Albert I. He was accompanied by some of the world's leading marine scientists and also, recorded numerous oceanographic studies, maps and charts. He mapped significant portions of the ocean floor and chose to spend a large part of World War I in his laboratory yacht in Monaco harbour.
This monumental building has an impressive view above the sea, towering over the sheer cliff face to a height over 85 metres. It is built on the side of the mythical Rock of Monaco. The aquarium is located in the basement of the museum and show a wide array of flora and fauna. Four thousand species of fish and over two hundred families of invertebrates can be seen there. The aquarium also features a presentation of Mediterranean and tropical marine ecosystems.
The ticket price is 14 € for adults, 10 € for teenagers and 7 € for children, and it can be visited every day from 10 AM to 6 PM in winter and 8:30 PM in summer. The museum is a beautiful place to see with famil or friends. If you are a fan of sea creatures, this museum is for you.
It always has new expositions that will get your attention. In this very beautiful place you can spent three or more hours there. Aquariums, artwork and even the building itself has a special beauty. On the terrace is a cafe with a splendid view to the sea.
