One of the oldest market in Bucharest is Obor. It has a real dark story. About 200 years ago it was a place of execution by hanging. In 1877, the local merchants raised a stone cross called "Cross merchants" to to sanctify the place. Over time the market has had several names and various locations.
Obor Central Markets construction began in October 1936. Just near Central Markets, agrifood Obor Square it was opened in the next two years. The old market building was inaugurated in 1950. In our days, the Obor Market, it is actually a Mall, with an underground parking, ground floor and another two floors.
The main products are vegetables, fruits, dairy, fish and meat but at the same time you can find cosmetics and household products, electrical and electronics, clothing and footwear. The grand opening it was on October 2, 2010, celebrating The Harvest Day.
It is located in the central-eastern part of the city at the intersection of traditional commercial street Mosilor and Stefan Cel Mare. The distance to the city center is about 1.5 km. Now, Obor Market, is a great destination for fresh and bio food but in the same time an alternative to nowadays supermarkets.
