The begining of the history of museums in Valcea County dates from the first moments after the end of world war II.
In 1949-1950 was constituited the first museum - The regional Museum Ramnicu Valcea - by taking from "Lahovari" high scool some archeology, history, art and religious book collections.
Initially the museum was organised in the building where today we can find the art museum Casa Simian ( Simian House ). In 1955 it was named The National Museum Ramnicu Valcea. In 1968 it was named different, The Museum of Valcea County.
After 1968 The Museum of Valcea County has developed a lot and continues to expand collections. The museum is now a institution specialised in research, preservation, restoration and valorisation of the romanian cultural heritage.
Designed and organised as a cultural complex the Museums of Valcea County has in it's structure 9 museum units.
