Monet was not only one of the most important names in art history, a great and inovative talent, but he also had a great influence on the younger artists and especially on the next generations of painters and sculptors. Working in a strenous manner, without resting for hours or even days, Monet continued working up until the last days of his life, never abandoning the Impressionist principles, yet trying to improve himself every day. This fascinating career deserved an exhibition such as "Monet. From Instant to Eternity", hosted by the Seoul Museum of Art between June 6 - September 26 2007. |
The exhibition is the first retrospective of Monet's work in Seoul, the organisers trying to present a careful selection of the best works made by the artist, as well as the influence that Impressionism had on modern art.
The curators have focused on the "Water Lilies" series, presenting around 20 works and landscapes depicting the artist's garden in Giverny, including some large scale compositions 3 and 2 meters long. The exhibition is divided in five distinct sections : "Landscape on the water", "The Seine and Sea" (with different views and sceneries at Giverny, "Garden at Giverny" (focusing on the place that fascinated and inspired Monet more than anything else), "Portraits of Family" (depicting family members" and finally "Lights in Europe" (images of European sceneries, viewed by Monet".
