Madrigal Choir, founded in 1963 by Professor Marin Constantin, is one of the most prestigious choral ensembles from Romania and until 1968 was part of Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory of Music in Bucharest. Since 1968 is a professional choir.
Madrigal choir claimed an impressive number of concerts in Romania and throughout the world, receiving numerous awards as: UNICEF Medal in 1968, the German music critics Prize in 1971, Honor Award and the Grand Duke Adolf Prize -Luxembourg (1979), Medaille en Vermeil - Luxembourg 1979, Diploma of Honor of the Union of Composers in Romania (1985, 1993).
The founder and also the choir conductor, Marin Constantin, was born in 1925 in Urleta, being a renowned specialist in Renaissance music, Gregorian, Baroque and traditional Romanian music.
Marin Constantin gratuted from Faculty of Pedagogy and Music Choral Conductors (1944-1949) and the Faculty of Psychology and Philosophy in Bucharest (1945-1949). In the period that was student he has taught at the Michael I King Cultural Foundation, the coordinator being Dimitrie Gusti, the founder of the Romanian school sociology and initiator of the Village Museum in Bucharest.
At his 83’s anniversary the master confessed: Madrigal is for me a divine gift.
Choir’s repertoire includes many original creations, created especially for it by composers such as: Anatol Vieru, Miriam Vieru, Tiberiu Olah, Stefan Niculescu, Irina Odagescu, Dan Buciu.
