The Principality of Liechtenstein lies in the middle of Europe, situated between Switzerland and Austria. It is a small country with just 25km in length and 6km in width and a population of 34000. It is the sixth smallest country in the world. Liechtenstein has one of the highest personal income rates (GDP Per Capita) in the world, with the base rate of income tax currently standing at just 1.2%.
Vaduz is the capital of the principality. The town, located along the Rhine, has about 5000 inhabitants. The most prominent landmark of Vaduz is Vaduz Castle, the home of the reigning prince of Liechtenstein and the Liechtenstein princely family. The castle gave its name to the town of Vaduz, which it overlooks from an adjacent hilltop.
The Princely Family of Liechtenstein acquired Vaduz Castle in 1712 when it purchased the countship of Vaduz. The castle is visible from almost any location in town. Liechtenstein is also a wonderful place for a wide range of winter activities and relaxing recreation.
The tourists can enjoy their family vacation in small and cozy Malbun. Liechtenstein has a continental climate featuring cold, cloudy winters with frequent snow or rain. Summers are cool to moderately warm, also often cloudy and humid. The currency used in Liechtenstein is Swiss franc, many shops will also accept the Euro. The official language is German, but the main language in everyday use is Alemannic German dialect.
Liechtenstein is a member of the Schengen Agreement. There are a few hotels in Liechtenstein. You will probably be able to find cheaper accommodation in neighboring Feldkirch, Austria. Liechtenstein has no airports due to the size of the country. The nearest large airport is at Zurich (115 km).
