Peles Castle
Peles Castle, located at the western foot of the Bucegi mountains from Sinaia, was built in the time of King Charles, In the 19th century, as a summer residence. The interior of the castle has a elegant style, while the whole castle walls are true exhibits of art works.
Bran Castle
A medieval fortress, Bran Castle is known also as the former residence of the character Dracula. It was built in 1377 for protecting the city of Brasov from the invaders attacks. This construction was also the favourite place of Queen Mary between 1920 and 1930. The rooms and the tower are built around an inner courtyard and the castle is situated on a mountain peak from where you can admire the whole Bran village.
Corvin Castle
The Corvin Castle is the most representative gothic monument in Transylvania. It was built in the 14th century, on the site of a former Roman settlement and was used as a residence of protection for the princely families. In 1930 the Hungarian King Sigismund of Luxembourg gave the castle to the prince Voicu of Hunedoara as a reward for his bravery deeds.
Fagaras Castle
Fagaras fortress was built in the 14th century and improved in the 17th by the princes from Transilvania after a renascentist style. For many time the castle served as a meeting place for the Diet from Transilvania. In the 18th century under the reign of the Habsburgs the construction was modified in the Vauban style.
Between 1948-1960 the Fagaras fortress was used by the authorities as a penitenciary for the political prisoners.
Bethlen Castle
The Bethlen Castle can be visited near Blaj, close to the village named Cetatea de Balta (Castle Pond). It was built in a french renaissance style and restored a century later when a gate in the Baroque style was added.
