BA-CA Kunstforum in Vienna will open on the 16th of October 2007 a fascinating exhibition, with the title "Kiss of the Sphinx", depicting the birth and development of Art Nouveau and Symbolism in Belgium.
When the Symbolist Manifesto was published, in 1886, few could imagine that the art history would be changed forever. France and Belgium, as the birth place of Art Nouveau and Symbolism, played a key role in promoting this new style.
The most important Symbolist artist of Belgium was Ferdinand Khnopff. Like his counterpart, the Austrian Gustav Klimt, Khnopff founded an artistic group, whose main idea was to promote an aesthetic revolution in sculpture and painting.
The exhibition at the Vienna museum is being organised in cooperation with Musees Royaux de Beau-Arts de Belgique, being an ample retrospective of this important time frame in Belgian art. The curators have chosen over 100 works, focusing on the creations and activities of the group "Les Vingt". The event will be open until 6 January 2008.
