North American film professionals at the 11th Transilvania International Film Festival
A longtime partner of Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), RCI New York continues and extends its collaboration with the Cluj-based festival for its eleventh edition, to take place this year between June 1-10. Supporting the promotion of Romanian cinema and providing film professionals with direct insight into the Romanian film scene, the Romanian Cultural Institute and RCINY will co-organize the festival’s ROMANIAN DAYS presenting a selection of the best Romanian productions of the past year.
For the third year in a row, the Romanian Days will be attended at RCINY's invitation by a delegation of North American film professionals, to include Mike Maggiore (Film Forum), Brian Ackerman (Jacob Burns Film Center),
Richard Abramowitz (Abramorama), Julia Solomonoff (director and producer / Columbia University), Jonathan Howell (New Yorker Films), and Guilhem Caillard (editor "Panorama-cinema", Montreal).
This year RCINY extends its support to a series of North American filmmakers and producers selected in the festival. The Romanian Film Festival in NYC will also be featured on June 7 in a roundtable moderated by RCINY Director Corina Suteu and Mihai Chirilov, Artistic Director of TIFF and RFFNYC, to be accompanied by the launch of the third issue of the special English language magazine aperiTIFF, produced in the framework of this extended collaboration. Last but not least, RCI will offer again this year the Transylvania Trophy, awarded to the Best Film in the festival, and the Romanian Days Award for Feature Film. U.S. music programmers at Green Hours International Jazz Fest 2012 RCINY invites this year a group of top U.S music programmers for an exploratory trip to Romania, during the 4th edition of the Green Hours International Jazz Festival (June 1-4). Shanta Thake (Joe's Pub at the Public Theater/globalFEST) and Mehmet Dede (Drom/NY Gypsy Festival) will have the chance to discover the Bucharest contemporary innovative music scene, attend concerts both on and off the festival, and meet a large array of Romanian musicians, producers and promoters of the independent music scene. This is a first for RCINY, part of its support for the promotion of both established musicians and the latest trends in the Romanian jazz, world music and electronic music in the U.S.

American publishers explore the Romanian literary scene
Between June 15-20, the National Book Center, a spinoff of the Romanian Cultural Institute, and RCI New York organize a first documentation and exploratory trip to Bucharest for leading American publishers dedicated to
promoting literature in translation. The delegation includes Jenna Johnson (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), Michael Barron (New Directions), Sadie Stein (The Paris Review), and Rohan Kamicheril (Words Without Borders).
This trip aims to facilitate a more direct contact and insight into the Romanian literary and publishing scenes, as well as of the opportunities of support for the translation and publication of Romanian authors, or of books about
Romanian arts and culture. With this initiative and many others, the Romanian Cultural Institute, through the National Book Center, and RCI New York are expanding their support in bringing a diversity of Romanian authors
to the attention of American audiences.
END OF JUNE: ROMANIA RETURNS TO NEW YORK

Cinty Ionescu's live video set ROMANYEAH! premieres in New York The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York presents the World Premiere of ROMANYEAH!, an audio-video performance created by shooting star of the Romanian underground scene, VJ and video designer Cinty Ionescu, Winner of the 2011 FringeNYC Video Design Excellence Award. The project, commissioned and presented by RCINY, has been conceived as a Romanian-American artistic collaboration blending a unique live mix of visuals and music.
The theme is Romania, as seen by Cinty, presented for New York audiences as a visual andmusical journey through a land of cultural and social paradoxes. The set is performed live, combining digital and analog video. Visuals include a broad selection of samples from Cinty’s Romanian journeys, a slide projection from the artist’s childhood in communist Romania, mixed with videos of well known Romanian cultural landmarks.
For Romanyeah! Cinty Ionescu has been working with acclaimed Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and mix engineer Brennan Green who created an original mix for the set. It includes Romanian music samples from classical, folk, traditional and gypsy music, to iconic songs from the ’30 and ‘40s, psychedelic rock of the '70s, and contemporary Romanian electro music. The series of performances kicks off on June 30 and July 1 in the framework of undergroundzero Festival, at The Living Theatre in Manhattan. On July 13, Romanyeah! will travel in a different format to Williamsburg’s cutting edge club La Sala.
