The Rohsska Museum in Gothenburg, Sweden, is hosting a new permanent exhibition, presenting a fine selection of artworks from the museum's collection of Japanese art, many of these of surprisingly and delicate beauty. The museum has long been famous for it's acquisitions of japonaiserie.
Some of the best works come from a donation made by a large group of Gotheburg merchants in 1905, who chose to give to the museum around 800 Japanese craft objects, which had previously been in the collecion of the Orientalist Fredrik Martin. Ever since the Rohsska Museum had oficially opened it's doors to the public, in 1916, this permanent exhibition of Japanese culture and art was a success, and over decades the acquisitions continued.
The Japanese exhibition is presented now in a brand new gallery, to better emphasize it's charm and valour.
