- Located in the English channel, only at a distance of five miles from Britain, the Isle of Wight is a well known retreat place for those who enjoy participating to fairs and interesting festivals that are here organised annualy for locals and tourists.
This Isle is also known as the good mood and carnival capital of the United Kingdom.
The country town of this isle, Newport, is the second biggest town from these surroundings; even the name suggests that is near water this place is not found at all by the sea.
Every year the party season begins with the annual Walking Festival, an event in which all the participants have to go five hundred miles on different footpaths along the Isle of Wight's terrain. The same festival, very popular, is held also in Newport.
In this town is organised another interesting event, the Country Show, hosted by the Agricultural Society. It has an animal bazaar as well as stalls with arts and crafts. For entertainment are held horse shows and terrier race events.
In Robin Hill Country Park near Newport takes place another important event, Bestival. This is a huge festival with important musicians. Every year here gathers over 300 bands and artists in 14 venues with different themes.
In the Isle of Wight the list of the places you have to visit is not finished. Cowes is the perfect place to go on sailing. Here you can see or participate to yacht races, Etchells World Championships and the Skandia Cowes Week.
In Cowes you may see the Osborne family house and Queen Victoria's summer house that was donated to the nation by King Edward VII. The city is also the host for the St George's Day parade, an event that features floats, battles re-enactments, competitions and many interesting shows.
