On August 4th 2008 Romanian heavy-metal fans will have the opportunity of seeing live, on the Cotroceni Stadium, one of the most important bands of the genre, IRON MAIDEN, playing for the very first time in the country in their "golden team", with Bruce Dickinson on vocals. The show is part of the "Somewhere Back in Time" World Tour, a "back to the roots" kind of experience, the band focusing on playing older material, taken from their first albums. Those who will come to the concert - which will most likely be a sold-out - will have a chance of hearing old-time classics such as The Trooper, Rime of the Ancient Mariner (inspired by the poem written by Coleridge), Fear of the Dark, Aces High and many others, bringing back the previous atmosphere of the band’s shows. Even the stage lights and preps are a reminder of the 80s heavy metal, inspired by the now classical Iron Maiden album Powerslave, with strong Egyptian influences.
Iron Maiden was founded in 1975 in England, the oldest original member being the bass player Steve Harris, and over the decades has gone through several changes, both as a group and as a musical force, succeeding in becoming one of the most influential, loved and respected heavy metal groups of all times, playing sold-out concerts to hundreds of thousands of fans, selling multimillion records and making the name, Iron Maiden, a trademark in 80 - 90s music. Starting with their first self-titled LP, released in 1980, the band recorded and released several albums, defining the heavy metal genre, with titles such as Killer, Number of the Beast, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Fear of the Dark, Brave New World or the latest A Matter of Life and Death, to mention just part of their studio recordings. They alkso released several live recordings, dozens of singles, videos and the likes, have altered their original style, have lost and gained thousands of fans and grew to be one of the largest names and brands in today’s music.
From the early days, as it can be seen or heard on the few recordings that survived, the band focused on making every live concert a show to remember, a dedication which also brought them a lot of enthusiastic fans. Redefining the live shows as a complete presentation, with lights, special effects, stage play and even a large animatronic puppet, known as Eddie, Iron Maiden provided a different kind of heavy metal concerts, soon to be imitated by other bands. A display of enthusiasm, great musician-ship, special effects, props and gimmicks that were in the style of the promoted album - ranging from Egyptian to horror, futuristic or medieval settings - Iron Maiden live on stage was something to be remembered. And surely the concert in Bucharest will be just the same.
