- On the shore of Sinoe lake, in the northern part of the actual Istria Peninsula was raised after more than two thousand and six hundred years the famous Histria city, founded by the Greek sailors and merchants who settled in the once hospitable bay, with the purpose to trae with native Geto-Dacians.
The Olive oil, wines and Greek ornaments were in that period exchanged for grain, honey, bees wax, salted fish, animal leather, pine resin and many other goods offered by local tribes.
The excavations, paused for a while, were resumed under the authority of Romanian Academy from 1949, by its Archaeology institute.
The Histria excavations were extended to the western shelf and in the necropolis. Also in Sinoe, Tariverde, Istria-village and Nuntasi.
The excavations were also extended in the interior of the citadel in the south-west sector, in the central area (domus) and that of Greek temples (sacred area), obtaining so accurate data for a life less known in the colony, begining with the greek founders settlements among the locals, untill the the end of Roman reign in these places.
These new discoveries were exploited through the seven volumes published that were dedicated to Histria.
