Herculane Baths, situated in the south-west of Romania, on the Cerna Valley, at 160 m height, has a very picturesque location. The climate with Mediterranean influences is very agreeable.
The resort, established since 153 e.n, has a long history until today mainly because of thermal springs with miraculous benefits. Herculane Baths is so among the oldest tourist resorts in the world.
You can visit here the Resort’s Museum founded in 1924 in the headquarters of the former Casino. In one of the halls there are archaeological objects found in Outlaws’s Cave located in area. Also in museum there are pieces date from the Roman Empire, especially votive altars. The third room of the museum exhibits pieces as lithographs, photographs, paintings that represent the image of the old resort. The Museum presents permanent exhibitions with documents relating to the history of the resort, antique coins, ceramics, bas-relief of Roman castro Ad Media.
Railway station in Herculane Baths was built in 1879 in Baroque style and the central body of the building with a majestic dome is decorated with representations of mythological characters including the legendary Hercules hero. The building was hunting house of Joseph Frantz Emperor.
In the Herculane Baths resort can see the statues of Eusculap and Higeea, located inside the Roman Hotel.
Here there is a statue of Hercules dedicated to this settlement. The statue is made of cannon iron and was a gift of the duke Karls in 1871 for resort.
