These waterfalls rival any tropical paradise in the world, with a color unique of the water: a captivating blue-green that is the result of high levels of travertine, a type of limestone. The waterfalls have created large plunge pools that are clear, deep and inviting. Over 100 years ago, Havasu Falls looked completely different; back then water flowed down the cliff in a two hundred foot wide curtain and was known as Bridal Veil Falls. But in 1910 a major flash flood roared through the canyon and knocked a notch in the travertine.
The water started following the current channel thus creating the spectacular Havasu Falls. The number of visitors is restricted and reservations are required. You must apply for reservations months in advance for trips during the tourism season. The best time to visit Havasu Falls is early spring or late fall when the crowds are thinner, the scenery is splendid, and the heat is manageable. Hiking conditions are excellent in the earlier spring and later fall, but the water will be cold and less inviting. Havasu Falls is accessible year-round, and each season provides a different backdrop for your experience.
