The artist and filmmaker Gunvor Nelson, born in 1931, is at this time one of the most important women filmmakers in the movement of "New American Cinema". For a long time the artist was a professor of film at the San Francisco Art Institute, her creations being characterized by by the mix of collage features and landscapes, sound and image. Although still unknown to the larger audiences, Gunvor Nelson's film are very experimental and much in demand among those who want a different kind of feature. Her early films, such as SCHMEERGUNTZ (1966) and TAKE OFF (1972) are considered to be feminist manifestos in movie history, other major themes being time, ageing, generation's conflicts.
The Moderna Museet in Stockholm is presenting at this time a special show dedicated to Gunvor Nelson, with daily screenings of her movies and videos, until December 2.
