The National Art Museum of Romania is hosting until the 30th of March 2008 one of the biggest exhibitions dedicated to Nicolae Grigorescu, one of the best Romanian masters, marking the passing of 100 years since his death. As the museum has the largest collection of works made by Grigorescu, it wasn't an easy task to select 230 paintings and other artworks, centered on landscape, a theme that the artist held dear. The show "Nicolae Grigorescu - Painter of Nature" focuses on the presence and variety of landscape in the career of the painter, as the public has the chance of rediscovering famous and little known works of the Romanian artist. This important cultural event marks a rebirth of interest for the works of Romanian masters.
Nicolae Grigorescu worked at first as a religious painter, working for several churches, but soon left for France, where he worked at the Barbizon School, close to other great artists such as Corot, Millet, Courbet, who influenced and guided him in shaping his own personal syle, mixing impressionism and symbolism.
